about

With few exceptions, the tunes on this CD were all written between the 16th and 18th centuries. The original sources show a single melody line, no chords or suggestions for additional parts. That is the delight of this music - the opportunity for improvisation, adaptation and creation!

This collection of some of our favourite tunes is designed for dancing as well as listening. There is a little introduction at the beginning of each number to set the pace and to allow you to honour your partner. The number of repetitions of the tune depends on the dance type, as well as the character of the melody.

The Dancehall Players' first album, recorded at Dan's Hall, released 2010.
Gregory Brown: flute, guitar
Susan Larkin: recorder, violin
Keith Malcolm: violin
Karen McIvor: cello
Dan Page: mandolin
Ann Schau: keyboard
